Wat Thai Temple, North Hollywood

We drove a few miles to Wat Thai Temple in North Hollywood, a Thai Buddhist temple with a large main building with the statue of the Buddha inside, and places to donate money or make offerings, etc. They also have a separate building for the classrooms of the children's school, as well as the a section of parking lot where vendors serve street food for lunch using a token system where visitors exchange American currency for plastic tokens, which can be traded for food. The vendors then get paid by exchanging the tokens back, and the temple takes some money off the top to help support the programs and upkeep of their community and cultural center. So tourists can wander the grounds and take photos, then buy inexpensive yummy food and thus partake of the culture and simultaneously help support the place.
